In school, the three Rs—reading, writing, and arithmetic—form the foundation of our education. In philanthropy, three different Rs—right asset, right vehicle, and right time—are the basis of making the perfect gift.
Right Asset: What do you want to give? While cash is the most popular way to give, you can also donate other assets, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, life insurance, and most retirement plans.
Right Time: When do you want to make your gift? If you make a donation today, your gift will be immediately used to support the lifesaving mission of the MGH. Or, you can choose to make a future gift. For example, you can name the hospital a beneficiary in a will today, but the MGH receives the gift in the future. Many donors elect to do both—making an immediate impact and creating a legacy.
Right Vehicle: How do you want to structure your gift? Do you want to make an outright gift or a pledge over a number of years? Do you want to name the MGH as a beneficiary of your will or retirement fund? Do you want to create an endowed fund or do you want to make a gift that provides an income for life?
Making a gift requires careful planning. The MGH Office of Planned Giving created this site to give you and your advisors information on ways to create a gift that helps you achieve your financial, estate, and philanthropic goals, and make a lasting difference at the MGH.
